What is CASSAVA?

CASSAVA is a kind of root that has many qualities that make it a big success: It goes by many other names such as tapioca, manioc & yuca. It has many positive qualities. From the point of its appearance in the South American, African and Asean countries it has remained popular as an additional cuisine at many a dining table. Its popularity rests on its unique taste, medicinal qualities and ease of production.

This versatile product has many positive qualities and it can be seen as bread (read pao de queijo). Its has become a common sight at meal time on many a family table in diverse counties. It is rich in calories. It can be consumed boiled, steamed and in a crispy form as chips. It grows to a height of 6-8 feet with a strong fibre base.

The roots also double up as animal fodder, strach for glue, laundry starch and tapioca pudding. It is harvested by merely pulling it out at the roots: the soil need not be fertile: It survives in negative conditions and can withstand the ill-effects of aluminium and manganese.
